WHAT WE BELIEVE
AT MEADOWS CHURCH OF CHRIST

We believe that God has given to us His word that we might

better come to know Him, ourselves, and the ministry to which

He has called each one of us. Since His word is a reflection of

who He is, we believe it is perfect and unchanging. We

therefore believe it is possible to establish the 1st Century church

of the Bible in a 21st Century world. Although methodologies

do change (e.g., today we have access to electronic media

they could never have imagined), we believe theology never does!

So we strive to present, through our lives and our ministries, the

message of Jesus found written on the pages of the Bible.

Yet like the people in the Bible we know we are not perfect!

But because of the love and encouragement we receive from

each other, and the blessings and the power we receive from God,

we believe others can come to know and believe in the Jesus as

each of us live our lives for Him!

The Bible

The Bible is God’s Word to all people. It was written by human authors under supernatural guidance by the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme and final authority for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without any mixture of error in the original autographs.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under His control daily.

Return of Christ

We believe that the 2nd Coming of Jesus provides the motivation for remaining faithful to the Lord and for seeking to bring others into a saved relationship with Him. When Jesus returns it will bring to an end all the He created in Genesis 1. He will then create "new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells," and where we will be with Him for all eternity.

1

Salvation

We believe that salvation is a gift God purchased for man on the basis of the death of His Son on the cross. We further believe that while it is available for everyone, it will only be given to those who choose to obey the Lord’s plan of salvation; faith in Jesus, repentance from sin, confession of Jesus as Lord, baptism for the forgiveness of sins, living faithfully unto death.

1

Divinity

God is sovereign over all things such that there is no aspect of reality outside of His ultimate control. Though God’s rule extends to all things, it is particularly His sovereignty over the work of salvation that is a theological distinctive. We believe that it is exceedingly good and glorious news that salvation is not dependent on the desires and deeds of man, but is grounded instead in God’s eternal decree of election.

Baptism

Baptism is intended only for those who have professed faith in Jesus Christ and can give sufficient testimony to the basics of Christian beliefs. Also, we baptize by immersion because it is not only the original significance of the word, but also best symbolizes the reality to which baptism points—our death and resurrection in Christ.

WHAT IS

THE GOSPEL?

The gospel is the good news of God's grace invading the darkness of this world. It is the grand narrative of creation, fall, redemption and consummation ordained by God and orchestrated through the life, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ. Christ's crucifixion is the heart of the gospel. His resurrection is the power of the gospel. His ascension is the glory of the gospel.

Christ's death is a substitutionary and propitiatory sacrifice to God for our sins. It satisfies the demands of God’s holy justice and appeases His holy wrath. It also demonstrates His mysterious love and reveals His amazing grace. Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and man. There is no other name by which men can be saved. At the heart of all sound doctrine is the cross of Jesus Christ and the infinite privilege that redeemed sinners have in glorifying God because of what He has accomplished. Therefore, we want all that takes place in our hearts, churches and ministries to proceed from and be related to the gospel.
