A LITTLE MORE ABOUT OUR PAST

The seed for Meadows church of Christ was planted almost 2,000 years ago.

It was planted on the day of Pentecost in 33 AD in Jerusalem.  More recently, however, it is the result of a work started in 1947 when two Beaumont congregations began supporting a small group of Christians meeting at 2520 Gulf Street.  The Gulf Street congregation experienced fast growth in numbers until soon afterward they were able to hire a full time minister.

There were a number of very capable men who filled the pulpit for this church during those early years.  In 1958, the congregation began planning for future growth by purchasing property on I-10.  In 1959, John and Gena Davis moved to Beaumont to further the Lord's work with the Gulf Street Christians.  Due to rapid growth, a new building was started on the I-10 property in 1962 and completed nine months later. The new congregation was named Ridgewood church of Christ and began conducting services in January, 1963.   John Davis faithfully served the Ridgewood family for over 50 years until health problems forced him to give up full time work.  During the many years of ministry John held hundreds of gospel meetings and contributed to numerous lectureships on Christian college campuses.

Through the 54 years of Ridgewood the Lord has used many of its members to further His work.  There have been missionaries supported in Guatemala, Zimbabwe, Ukraine, and Australia, just to name a few.  Ridgewood members have served on dozens of Campaigns for Christ, as well as many other evangelistic efforts both domestically and internationally.

A thriving bus binistry was operated for years with pre-teens and teens being taught bible lessons that are still being lived out in the lives of many of those that were touched.  During that time, Famous and Carol Byers were added to the ministry team and lead many outstanding accomplishments for the Lord over a 30+ year tenure. Famous begun a Jail Ministry that succeeded in helping multiple inmates become Christians.

Camp Red Oak Springs has been vigorously supported by Ridgewood through the years and has helped bring many of our youth to a deeper faith.  Many lasting friendships and countless current church leaders were greatly influenced by their camping experiences.  Our own John Davis worked with the other camp founders to build it

into the outstanding institution that it has become.

Christian Schools of Beaumont was started as a result of the work and planning of several Ridgewood members along with the support of numerous other area congregations.  The school was housed in the Ridgewood building for many years.  Although the school is no longer in existence, many of the young people who attended were greatly influenced to live the Christian life by the lessons taught. Numerous of the graduates of the school are now church leaders in their various communities.

Rick and Chris Walker came to Beaumont in 2013 to work with Ridgewood church of Christ.  Rick is an excellent evangelist and tireless bible instructor.  They have been an outstanding addition to the church family.

The Ridgewood shepherds had been seeking for a number of years to find an opportunity to relocate to a thriving family-oriented neighborhood.  That opportunity was discovered in the abandoned YMCA property on Dishman Road, and has now become home for Meadows church of Christ.  The church family is excited about the challenge of serving the Lord in this new location, and is anxious to meet and greet our new neighbors.

Let the journey begin!

OUR
MISSION

"To bring the Lost to Jesus, Equip God’s People to Serve, and Love One Another to Heaven, All for the Glory of God."

It is our mission to help people experience Christ.  We hope people may grow strong in Christ and take Christ with them into the world. We believe in a church outside of the four walls of a building. It is our mission that our members will go out into the world to spread the word to everyone they connect with.

OUR

VISION

We see the church growing into a loving community of believers who have a passion to help others come into a saved relationship with Jesus, where He may be glorified in every area of our lives!

OUR

GOALS

The church is divided into areas of ministry where we seek to incorporate all of our members to use the God-given gifts in a ministry where we can meet the physical and spiritual needs of all our members as well as the broader community. We therefore strive to integrate our ‘Mission’ into our lives as well as each area of ministry.

Come help us accomplish our Goals!

HERE AT CHURCH WE WANT TO HIGHLIGHT GOD'S LIFE CHANGING WORK IN THE LIVES OF THE PEOPLE INVOLVED... YOU COULD BE NEXT!

6 PRINCIPLES WE LIVE BY

AUTHENTICITY:  We believe we can’t be what God has called us to be if we are not genuinely ourselves. We must be our true selves so that we make a connection with one another on a higher level.

BIBLICAL TRUTH: We believe the Bible is God’s inherent truth and it’s the foundation to everything we do.

COMMUNICATION: He used the current language and daily life experiences of those around him to communicate truth.

LIFE TOGETHER: We aren’t interested in being a place where a lot of people get together for an inspiring service but never move beyond the casual, arm’s distance relationships of an auditorium.

EXCELLENCE: We don’t believe in striving for unrealistic perfection. Real excellence is about bringing your best to God’s work and to life in general.

GROWTH: This is a safe place for everyone. But safe doesn’t mean comfortable. The answers aren’t always comfortable.
